How to develop ProRes RAW from iPhone 17 Pro on the iPhone

With Final Cut Camera 2.0, iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max can record Apple ProRes RAW. You can develop those clips without leaving the phone.

What changes with ProRes RAW

ProRes RAW stores sensor data before the image is developed, so white balance, ISO and exposure stay adjustable afterwards instead of being baked in. That flexibility only helps if you can actually develop the footage.

Step by step in BlackRAW Studio

  1. Open the clip. Select it from Files or an external SSD.
  2. Develop the RAW. Adjust white balance, tint, ISO, exposure and highlight recovery, and choose Rec.709 or Apple Log as the development output.
  3. Grade. Use wheels, curves, HSL, ColorSlice and LUTs, on one clip or the whole timeline.
  4. Deliver. Export graded clips or a sequence. Rendered exports are SDR Rec.709. Keep the look as a .cube LUT and send the edit as FCPXML or EDL.
Saving a trimmed original RAW range is available for Blackmagic RAW only, not for ProRes RAW. ProRes RAW is not a rendered export option.
